The Spring Sweep
April 24th – May 2nd 2021
Over 40 sites across the Niagara River Watershed
Join Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper for the annual Spring Sweep!
Unite with thousands of Western New Yorkers over 9 days to protect and beautify our shorelines and waterways. We need your help to remove over 22,000 pounds of litter this year. Without the Spring Sweep, this litter will end up in our creeks, rivers, lakes, and streams— harming our water and the life it supports, including our own.
The Spring Sweep is part of the Great Lakes Cleanup!
Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper is leading the inaugural Great Lakes Cleanup, a weeklong basin-wide cleanup effort. We are expanding cleanup efforts and working alongside a coalition of communities across the Great Lakes Basin to host simultaneous clean up events. Our goal is to remove over 77,500 pounds of litter and prevent it from entering the Great Lakes.
There are three great ways to get involved in the Spring Sweep.
Whether you can fundraise, volunteer, donate, or all three, you are a critical piece of keeping Western New York's fresh water clean!
Be A Water Warrior!
Are you ready to double your impact?
As a Water Warrior, you will fundraise leading up to the Spring Sweep and join us to cleanup one (or more!)
of over 30 cleanup sites.
The litter you remove will
make an immediate impact.
The dollars you raise will
make a lasting impact.
More than 40 million people rely on the Great Lakes for drinking water. Litter pollution threatens the safety of our water and the integrity of our region’s greatest natural resource.
Follow Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper throughout the Spring Sweep and learn ways to reduce pollution in your day-to-day life. Then, be sure to join us during the Sweep to cleanup our waterways!
